Moderate evidence

Resistance training improves bone mineral density in postmenopausal women.

In practice

Loading bone is one of the few things that maintains it. This is a strong argument for lifting meaningful weight rather than very light weights, particularly around and after menopause.

What it doesn't say

Protocols vary widely across studies and the best one isn't settled. Anyone with diagnosed osteoporosis needs individual guidance before loading heavily.
